What the ratings actually mean.
Medicare publishes quality data on every certified home health agency so families can compare providers side by side. Two measures matter most:
Quality of Patient Care star rating. This combines clinical outcomes — like how often patients improve at walking and moving around, get better at everyday activities such as bathing and dressing, and avoid being admitted to the hospital during care. Agencies are scored from 1 to 5 stars; a higher rating signals stronger, more consistent results.
The Home Health Care CAHPS patient survey. Medicare surveys patients directly about their experience — whether the care team communicated well, treated them with respect, and whether they would recommend the agency. These are the voices of real families, collected independently.
