Speech therapy at home

In-home speech-language pathology (SLP) treats disorders of communication, language, voice, and swallowing that follow stroke, neurological injury, Parkinson's disease, head and neck surgery, or dementia. A licensed SLP comes to the patient's home — where real communication happens — and works directly in the environment the patient must navigate every day.

Clinical Scope

What our speech-language pathologists treat

  • Aphasia — language comprehension and expression loss after stroke or TBI

  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device training

Swallowing Safety

Dysphagia: the swallowing complication most families don't expect

Up to 78% of stroke survivors experience some degree of dysphagia. Swallowing problems also affect patients with Parkinson's disease, ALS, head and neck cancer, and following prolonged intubation. Untreated dysphagia leads to aspiration pneumonia — a leading cause of post-stroke rehospitalization and mortality.

Kassy Health SLPs conduct a clinical swallowing evaluation at the first visit, determine appropriate diet texture and liquid consistency per IDDSI guidelines, and implement targeted swallowing exercises. We coordinate with the physician on modified diet orders and communicate findings to the care team.

Cost & Coverage

What does in-home speech therapy cost?

For eligible homebound patients, Medicare Part A covers 100% of approved speech-language pathology visits — no copay, no deductible. Speech therapy qualifies as a standalone skilled service that opens the home health benefit on its own.

Kassy Health verifies coverage during intake and confirms any out-of-pocket costs before care begins. We accept traditional Medicare and most Medicare Advantage plans in Central Florida.

Speech Therapy FAQ

Common questions

Yes. Post-stroke aphasia (language loss) and dysarthria (unclear speech) are among the most common reasons for speech therapy referral. Early intervention is important — neurological recovery is most rapid in the first weeks after stroke. Our SLPs conduct a language evaluation, establish a communication system that works now, and implement a targeted treatment plan. Family members are trained in communication strategies as well.

Yes. Parkinson's commonly causes hypophonia (soft voice), dysarthria (unclear speech), and dysphagia (swallowing difficulty). LSVT LOUD and similar evidence-based voice treatment protocols have strong research support for improving vocal loudness and intelligibility in Parkinson's patients. Kassy Health SLPs are trained in these approaches and can deliver them in the home setting.

Signs of dysphagia include coughing or throat-clearing during or after eating, a wet or gurgly voice quality, difficulty swallowing pills, taking a very long time to eat, avoiding certain food textures, choking episodes, or unexplained weight loss. If you notice any of these, tell the care team immediately. Silent aspiration — where food or liquid enters the airway without triggering a cough — is also possible and requires clinical evaluation to detect.
